While high shear alignment has been shown to improve the mechanical properties of single‐wall carbon nanotube (SWNT)‐polymer composites, this method does not allow for control over the electrical and dielectric properties of the composite and often results in degradation of these properties. Here, we report a novel method to actively align SWNTs in a polymer matrix, which permits control over the degree of alignment of the SWNTs without the side effects of shear alignment. In this process, SWNTs were aligned via AC field‐induced dipolar interactions among the nanotubes in a liquid matrix followed by immobilization by photopolymerization under continued application of the electric field. Alignment of SWNTs was controlled as a function of magnitude, frequency, and application time of the applied electric field. The degree of SWNT alignment was assessed using optical microscopy and polarized Raman spectroscopy, and the morphology of the aligned nanocomposites was investigated by high‐resolution scanning electron microscopy. The structure of the field induced aligned SWNTs was intrinsically different from that of shear aligned SWNTs. In the present work, SWNTs are not only aligned along the field, but also migrate laterally to form thick, aligned SWNT percolative columns between the electrodes. The actively aligned SWNTs amplify the electrical and dielectric properties of the composite. All of these properties of the aligned nanocomposites exhibited anisotropic characteristics, which were controllable by tuning the applied field parameters. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In [6], O. C. García and W. Taylor asked if the breadth of the lattice of interpretability types of varieties is uncountable. The present paper solves the problem by two different constructions. Both of them show that any cardinal number is the cardinality of an antichain in the named lattice and that the existence of a proper class antichain is equivalent to the negation of Vopěnka's principle. The first construction gives in a way a minimal solution of the problem, whereas the second one gives stronger results about the category of clones. In this work, Barkhausen noise measurements are shown for the amorphous ribbons Metglas 2605TCA and Fe73.5Cu1Nb3Si18.5B4 FINEMET material which is the amorphous precursor of the well-known nanocrystalline material, under different stress, annealing and magnetizing frequency conditions. These parameters were varied in search for different dynamical regimes of the complex system composed by the set of domain walls interacting with a reservoir of defects.  相似文献

This paper mainly focuses on the nonlinear pulsation of a bubble near the rigid wall. Dynamics of near-wall bubble and free bubble are discussed and compared in details. Investigation reveals as the driving acoustic pressure amplitude increases, nonlinear pulsation of bubble becomes intense gradually. Besides, decreasing the viscosity of host liquid is advantageous for the nonlinear pulsation of bubble. Bifurcation diagrams of bubble radius show acoustic reflection of the rigid wall makes the initial bifurcation appear at low driving acoustic amplitude and on bubble with small ambient radius, and makes the bifurcation still exist for bubble in high-viscosity liquids. That indicates the rigid wall will produce enhancement on the nonlinearity of nearby bubble. As the bubble approaches the wall, the enhancement becomes strong. Moreover, research on the influence of driving frequency shows the rigid wall makes the frequency band corresponding to chaos around the resonant frequency of free bubble shift downward.  相似文献

A multidisciplinary research was conducted by the University of Salento in collaboration with the Lecce Provincial Museum, in order to study different forms of art widespread in the Salento peninsula (Southern Italy) very valuable from an artistic point of view and important as driving force for the tourism of the area. In this research, the archaeometrical analysis was used to study the first cycle of paintings of the church of Santa Maria delle Cerrate, an italo‐greek monastery located in the country about 15 km north‐east of Lecce, probably built in the 12th century. Microscopic, chromatographic and spectrometric techniques were used: optical microscopy was used to study samples and the relevant stratigraphy, micro‐Raman Spectroscopy to identify pigments and Gas Chromatography with Mass Spectrometric Detection to investigate the techniques masters used to decorate the monastery church. Further information on organic and inorganic materials present in the samples were obtained from Fourier transform infrared analysis in attenuated total reflectance. Materials and techniques were clearly ascertained, and, interestingly, pigments were applied both by fresco and egg‐based tempera. Among the various pigments detected, the identification of both lapis lazuli and lead white opened new perspectives both from the historical and conservative points of view. We investigated the motion of domain walls in ferromagnetic cylindrical nanowires by solving the Landau–Lifshitz–Gilbert equation numerically for a classical spin model in which energy contributions from exchange, crystalline anisotropy, dipole–dipole interactions, and a driving magnetic field are considered. Depending on the diameter, either transverse domain walls or vortex walls are found. A transverse domain wall is observed for diameters smaller than the exchange length of the given system. In this case, the system effectively behaves one dimensionally and the domain wall velocity agrees with the result of Slonczewski for one-dimensional walls. For larger diameters, a crossover to a vortex wall sets in which enhances the domain wall velocity drastically. For a vortex wall the domain wall velocity is described by the Walker formula.  相似文献

Objectives

The purpose of this study was to (a) investigate the image quality of phase-sensitive dual-inversion recovery (PS-DIR) coronary wall imaging in healthy subjects and in subjects with known coronary artery disease (CAD) and to (b) investigate the utilization of PS-DIR at 3 T in the assessment of coronary artery thickening in subjects with asymptomatic but variable degrees of CAD.

Materials and Methods

A total of 37 subjects participated in this institutional review board-approved and HIPAA-compliant study. These included 21 subjects with known CAD as identified on multidetector computed tomography angiography (MDCT). Sixteen healthy subjects without known history of CAD were included. All subjects were scanned using free-breathing PS-DIR magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for the assessment of coronary wall thickness at 3 T. Lumen–tissue contrast-to-noise ratio (CNR), signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and quantitative vessel parameters including lumen area and wall thickness were measured. Statistical analyses were performed.

Results

PS-DIR was successfully completed in 76% of patients and in 88% of the healthy subjects. Phase-sensitive signed-magnitude reconstruction, compared to modulus-magnitude images, significantly improved lumen–tissue CNR in healthy subjects (26.73 ± 11.95 vs. 14.65 ± 9.57, P < .001) and in patients (21.45 ± 7.61 vs. 16.65 ± 5.85, P < .001). There was no difference in image CNR and SNR between groups. In arterial segments free of plaques, coronary wall was thicker in patients in comparison to healthy subjects (1.74 ± 0.27 mm vs. 1.17 ± 0.14 mm, P < .001), without a change in lumen area (4.51 ± 2.42 mm2 vs. 5.71 ± 3.11 mm2, P = .25).

Conclusions

This is the first study to demonstrate the feasibility of successfully obtaining vessel wall images at 3 T using PS-DIR in asymptomatic patients with known variable degrees of CAD as detected by MDCT. This was achieved with a fixed subject-invariant planning of blood signal nulling. With that limitation alleviated, PS-DIR coronary wall MRI is capable of detecting arterial thickening and positive arterial remodeling at 3 T in asymptomatic CAD.  相似文献

The parameters of a SiH4/H2 VHF plasma were measured as a function of silane gas concentration with a heated Langmuir probe. It was found that when the sailane gas concentration is increased, the nagative ion density increases. Here the negative ion density was estimated from the reduction of the electron saturation current. In addition, the dependence of the wall potential on the silane gas concentration agreed with the theoretical values derived from the Bohm sheath equation including negative ions.
